About this copy

Flash Comics #1 (January 1940) introduced two cornerstone DC heroes simultaneously: Jay Garrick as the original Flash — the Fastest Man Alive — and Carter Hall as the reincarnated Hawkman. Both went on to anchor the Justice Society of America.

This CGC 7.0 FN/VF copy is a spectacular example of the book. The Sheldon Moldoff cover — Flash racing against a red and yellow background — is vibrant at this grade. Interior pages are bright and supple.

Among the finest examples of this title known in private hands. A true museum-quality specimen of a seminal Golden Age book.

Why a Price Guide Number Is Only a Starting Point for Comic Values

A comic book values price guide gives a reference figure for a title, issue and grade, but it is not what a particular copy will sell for. The real value comes from the exact condition of your copy and what comparable copies have recently sold for.

How CGC Grade, Page Quality and Label Set the Price of a Slabbed Comic

The value of CGC graded comics is set by the numeric grade, the page quality noted on the label, the label type (including any restoration), and demand for that specific issue. The only reliable figure is what the same issue in the same grade recently sold for.
