Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941) arrived nine months before Pearl Harbor. Joe Simon and Jack Kirby's wartime hero — Steve Rogers transformed by a super-soldier serum — became an immediate phenomenon, selling nearly one million copies on its first print run.
