    The record for a single comic is 6 million dollars, paid for a CGC 8.5 copy of Action Comics #1 (1938) at Heritage Auctions in April 2024. Other documented milestone sales include a CGC 7.0 Superman #1 at 5.3 million dollars (private sale, 2022), a CGC 9.6 Amazing Fantasy #15 at 3.6 million dollars (Heritage, September 2021), a CGC 8.5 Action Comics #1 at 3.25 million dollars (ComicConnect, April 2021) and a CGC 9.4 Captain America Comics #1 at 3.12 million dollars (Heritage, April 2022).

    What is the first appearance of Spider-Man?

    Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15, cover-dated August 1962, in an 11-page origin story by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko with a cover by Jack Kirby and Ditko. It was the final issue of the anthology. The Amazing Spider-Man #1 followed in March 1963. Amazing Fantasy #15 is the most valuable Silver Age comic: a CGC 9.6 copy sold for 3.6 million dollars at Heritage Auctions in September 2021.

    What is the first appearance of Morbius?

    Morbius, the Living Vampire, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, cover-dated October 1971, by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane; his origin is told in #102. The story is the six-armed Spider-Man arc, and #101 was the first issue of Amazing Spider-Man not written by Stan Lee. Morbius was created as a scientific vampire to get around the Comics Code's ban on the supernatural kind.

    What is the first appearance of the Punisher?

    The Punisher first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, cover-dated February 1974, created by writer Gerry Conway with artists Ross Andru and John Romita Sr., who designed the skull costume. The issue also introduced the Jackal. Hired to kill Spider-Man, the Punisher was intended as a one-off antagonist and became one of Marvel's most popular characters.

    Why is Amazing Spider-Man #129 a key issue?

    Amazing Spider-Man #129 (February 1974) is the first appearance of the Punisher and of the Jackal, the villain behind the original Clone Saga. Gerry Conway wrote it, Ross Andru drew it and John Romita Sr. designed the Punisher's skull costume. It is one of the three headline Bronze Age keys with Incredible Hulk #181 and Giant-Size X-Men #1.

    Amazing Spider-Man #8: the Living Brain and the Human Torch backup

    Amazing Spider-Man #8 (January 1964), by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, is the first appearance of the Living Brain and the issue in which Peter Parker finally fights Flash Thompson in a boxing match. It also carries a six-page Human Torch backup drawn by Jack Kirby — his only Spider-Man story in the early run — which makes it a minor key with unusual appeal to both Ditko and Kirby collectors.

    Marvel Team-Up #141 and Amazing Spider-Man #252: the first black costume

    Spider-Man's black costume — later the symbiote and Venom — first appeared in regular continuity in two issues with the same May 1984 cover date, released the same week: Amazing Spider-Man #252 and Marvel Team-Up #141. Amazing Spider-Man #252 is the more famous and valuable, but Marvel Team-Up #141 is the same in-continuity debut and trades at a fraction of the price. The costume's origin was told in Secret Wars #8 (December 1984).
